USS Baker
This is the USS Baker from FASA's old Starship Combat Simulator game. I played the game when I was in middle school with a friend of mine. I threw out all the books a long time ago, but there are still schematics floating around on the internet. There is one at the Starship Schematic Database. It's a good site and there are a lot of good ideas there.
I always liked this design. It looked like a good cruiser, but they said it was a destroyer. Considering that it's probably bigger than the Enterprise, which is a cruiser, I'd say FASA was out to lunch on that. To be fair, they were out to lunch on a lot of things. They designed a few good looking ships though.
Putting it Together
Construction was pretty simple, as far as modifications go. I cut the impulse engine out of the saucer section, and built the back portion out of sheet styrene. I glued it back on and then added some detail to the aft hull. Then I cut the pylons and attached them to the corners. After the glue was dry, I attached the warp nacelles to the pylons and filled in all the gaps with putty. It took a days worth of cutting, gluing, and filling to get it all together.
After airbrushing the base coat on, I hand painted the details and gave it a gloss coat. I made some decals up on my computer and put them on. After everything was dry, I gave it a dull finish and made a simple stand. It's one of my favorite little models. Simple to make and it looks good.
I don't have a lot of 1/2500 scale ships, but this one adds a nice touch to the few that I have. If you've got the parts and the styrene, this one will add a nice touch to your fleet.
