Millennium Falcon
This is the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars, in case you didn't know. The original model was released in 1979 byt MPC, and was recently re-released. I made this model about 7 years ago, but it was my first with an add-on kit and I like it. I also think the Millennium Falcon is the coolest Sci-Fi ship out there, so I really like this model.
Another add-on kit has been released since I bought this model, so I may go back and do some more detailing and repaiting. Fine Molds also released a model that is much more accurate, but its very expensive, so I might not be getting it.
The add-on kit was released to correct a huge error on the model kit. The side panels on the MPC model are much to tall when compared to the studio model. The panels were also inacurate and lacked many details. The cockpit was also a little lacking, so someone made a resin aftermarket kit. It's a great kit, but I don't think it's available any more. But you can get one at the Starship Modeler Store.
I tried to give the model a worn look, but my lack of skill when I built this model shows. It looks a little dirty, but not quite like the studio model. I also think the base color is too dark. When (if) I buy the new add-on kit, I'll spruce up the paint job and make it look nicer.
I think that for where I was skill-wise at the time, its a good model. Now, I'd be able to really make it shine. I just need to actually go back and do it. I'm sure when I get around to fixing it up, it will look really good. I was able to do that with my Enterprise-D model, so I think I could do that with this one.
I also think I'll put the landing gear down this time so I can set it down with out messing up the guns. I'll replace the cheap printed engine grill with a scratch built one. If I ever get around to doing it, that is.
