Star Wars: Lambda Class Shuttle
This is an older model of mine, but it looks ok so I figured you like to see it. It's the Lambda Class Shuttle from Star Wars. The model was sold as the Shuttle Tyderium, but with a little damage I figured it was just another shuttle.
I built this so long ago, I can't remember anything special about it. I tried a couple techniques on it, but they didn't look so great, so I just went ahead and detailed it the only way I knew then. The good old airbrush.
I tried using pastels to simulate weathering, and I think I did a few other things. I remember 'scribbing' a couple extra panel lines to mimic a replaced panel, but it didn't turn out so great. It could really use a repaint. I also recently learned that this model has a big inaccuracy. The cockpit needs to be lower, and I think out a little farther.
An old model
I keep this model in storage, since I have limited space. I also don't like the stand, but someday, I'll probably go back and re-do the whole thing. I'll touch up the seams, add some details where I think it needs it, give it a new paint job, and make a new stand for it. It also needs to have the cockpit re-aligned, but I have a pretty long line of models that I really should build.
I'm not sure what the scale is supposed to be. It's about 1/72, but the figures are pretty small for that. I think it could use a cockpit revamp, and with that, some new pilots. It would make a good project. That's what I like about old models. You can usually disassemble them and do a better job the second time around.
The model, of course, has moving wings. That's one thing I like about big companies that make models. You get moving parts. It's nice to get super detailed, super accurate models from small shops, but they can usually only be made one way. I like the option of changing it around.
You think they could come up with a better display stand though. That thing is so wobbly and unsatble! The model isn't heavy, but it is almost too much for the stand. It works, but the model tends to flop around on the stand a bit. But it doesn't matter, since this one died on the last move. Oh well.
