Star Wars: Naboo Starfighter

Here's the Naboo starfighter from Star Wars: Episode I. It's the yellow ship that Anakin flew at the end of the move. The model was originally a snap-fast model, but I decided to cut off all the snap-fast pins and glue it together. It made the seams better and made the model a much more solid structure.

I also decided to strip off the chrome plating form some of the parts. I did it the same way I stripped paint from the Enterprise-D. If you want to read how I did it, check out that page. The chrome finish made the model look toy-like, and I wanted it to look a little more realistic.

I used Insignia Yellow and Silver for the paint scheme. I could have used something like Testors Metalizer paints, but I didn't want to go all out. It's a eight dollar model and I didn't want to spend that much on it. The silver turned out fine anyway. I probably should have used a gloss yellow though. The flat yellow doesn't give it the same look that it had in the movie. But it looks good, especially for a cheap little snap-fast model.

There are a few thing that I should have done with this one. First, I should have taken the chrome off the R2-D2. It just looks a little cheesy in there with the factory chrome on it. Also, I should have taken longer to smooth out the finish. It lookes a little rough, and Naboo ships always have a nice smooth look.

This one didn't survive the many moves though, so I'll never be able to fix it. I gave it to the kids to play with, so hopefully it will kill at least a few bad guys out there.
