Paper Models

I've made several paper models since I learned about them, but not all of them have survived. Some of these pictures are of models that no longer exist, either due to poor construction or due to my cat. I don't know what it is about them, but my cats love batting around these models like cat toys and generally destroying them. This first picture was taken in 2004, and all these models are now gone.

Here are some close-ups of some of the rockets that I had back them. None of them are 'super detailed' but they are good models. I would recomend starting with this type of model if you are getting into paper modeling. Decent details, but not to fancy so you won't feel bad if you decide to trash it and start over.

These American rockets are now officially 'hard to find' but they are still out there. They have basic detail and are eary to build. They also split in to stages, so they are kind of fun to make.

The Japanese H2-A model is pretty nice for a free model. This model also splits into stages, and the designer said he made it so he could explain 'staging' to his son. It would make a great little project for kids wanting to do something with their dad.

You can head to the links section of my website for a few of the links I have used. There are many more out there too. You can also find some nice comercial sites with a large variety of models by using Google or some other search engine. It's a great change from plastic models if you want to expand your horizons a bit.

Homeworld Models

Here's one of the Homeworld models that you could get at the Paper Starships webite found on my links page. The site is down, but I have another version in my Paper Models Download section. It's not to tricky to build and once you are done you have a great little model of the ship form the game.

This model is my Kadeshi Mothership, or Needleship as it is often called. I made this from the test PDF that I made from the Pepakura version of the model. There was another version of this model out there, but the site it was on is no longer around. I originally made mine becasue I thought the original was a little difficult to make and the files it came on weren't the cleanest out there. As you can see, this builds into a nice model.

I would suggest to any modeler to try paper models. There is a large variety of topics out there, and some really nice models too. I've seen trains that look amazing, cars that look like the real thing, and buildings that would blow you away. Paper models are easy to build, cheap (or even free), and it's fun.
