USS Reliant
This is the USS Reliant from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn. I built it pretty much straight from the box. I modified the engines by cutting off some of the thruster fin in the back to make it look more like it should. And I puttied up the rim of the saucer to make it smooth. But other than that it's 'stock.'
The base coat is Testors Light Gray and the aztec pattern is light gray mixed with a touch of silver. The large phaser cannon tips and fins, the shuttle bay tops, and the photon torp pod front and back are all Euro I Gray. The band around the bridge is Light Ghost gray and the blue on the roll bar is Medium Gray. The painted detail on the bottom, as well as the fronts of the warp nacelles is Dark Gull Gray. The details around the ship are mostly Dark Gull Gray also. The bridge top is aluminum and the black on the warp nacelles is just regular black. I used some dark gray artist's pastel to weather the ship a little.
This was a pretty simple model except for the edge of the saucer. AMT/ERTL messed up a good model by making the rim of the saucer stair-stepped instead of smooth, like it should be. It's not to hard to fix though, so I wasn't too worried. The decals didn't turn out so well. It was partly because glue had started to go bad and I didn't put on a gloss coat before I put them on.
I'm going to re-do this one. I bought a set that fixes the thickness of the saucer. It's too thin, and you need a pretty extensive fix for it. I also got a bridge replacement and new decals. It will look much nicer the second time around. I'm going to spruce up the engines too, since they are a little inaccurate. And since this one got totally banged up in the last move, I might do it sooner than I planned.
