Star Wars: Imperial Star Destroyer

This is the Imperial Star Destroyer from MPC/AMT that came out way back when. The Star Destroyer is an icon for Star Wars, and almost everyone can recoginze it. The model went out of production a while ago, but it's been re-released. The new model isn't any different from what I've heard though. The model is pretty basic. The shape is right, but the details are lacking. They are simplified and don't give it the complex look that the filming model had.

In the late 90s, an add on kit was released by a small garage company that gave the side walls more details. It was Sub Level 3 Heavy Industries, and is now defunct as far as I can determine. But the kit looks much nicer with the parts on it. I didn't do as good of a job as I could have with the seams, but the over all look is pretty good.

Enhanced Beauty

The pictues you see here have all had their contrast enhanced so you can see more of the derails. It looked pretty washed out before I did that, but now you can make out the little bits and bobs on the sides.

I built this model in 1998, so it's pretty old. There have been a couple detail kits released since then, and I may have a go at adding them and giving the model a new paint job. I could do a better job now and I think it would really make the model shine.

For now though, this model will sit with my other Star Wars models. It doesn't look bad, and the non-modeler would think it looks good. The problem is that once you get into something like modeling, you can see all the flaws and errors in something. I can only see the so-so paint job and bad seams, so I want to re-do it to make it better. But it will have to get in line. My list is already too long.
